چکیده

Ellis et al. (l), Li and Papkoff (2) and Ellis (3) have reported changes in biological activity and electrophoretic behavior after treatment of growth hormone with acidic and alkaline buffers, and Lazo-Wasem and Graham (4) have studied the stability of growth hormone prepared by different procedures. Recently, it has been shown (5) that highly purified preparations of growth hormone are contaminated with proteinases. The study reported here concerns the various factors that influence the action of these enzymes and data are presented that show that many of the observations made on the stability of growth hormone can be explained by the presence of proteolytic enzymes in samples of the hormone.

A Relationship between Thyroid Function and a Naturally Occurring Inhibitor of Hypophysial Proteinases.

The protrinases of the pituitary gland have received increasing attention in recent years and much of the work has been directed toward finding a physiological function for the enzymes. Adams and Smith (1) described both peptidase and proteinase activities in the gland. Ellis (2) purified one of the proteinases and described a number of its physical and chemical properties. A peptidasc that cle...

The Effect of Bromocriptine on the Secretion of Hypophysial Thyroidal Hormonal Axis

Thyrotropine secretion in human beings is under the influence of various factors. The effect of the hormones, triiodothyronine, thyroxine, somatostatin and thyroid-stimulating hormone has been well known. In this study the direct effect of stimulation of the dopaminergic system by bromocriptine on the thyrotropine secretion was investigated. In this study twenty women with hyperprolactinemia r...

ASAS Nonruminant Nutrition: Vitamins, Minerals, and Energy

Ovoinhibitor is a serine protease-inhibiting protein that specifically inhibits serine proteinases such as trypsin and chymotrypsin. During recent attempts to raise monoclonal antibodies (MABS) against chicken bursa of Fabricius proteins, one MAB was produced that specifically recognized chicken ovoinhibitor. This was the first demonstration of ovoinhibitor in an avian immune organ. Further imm...
